The Time When I Got Scammed in Georgia

A Reminder to Dodge Scams… Or Collect Them Like Souvenirs?

The Time When I Got Scammed in Georgia

This is a story from my recent trip to Georgia, particularly from the capital city of Tbilisi. Here you go.

So, this dude randomly puts a peafowl on my shoulder without asking! He starts yelling,

"Take photos, take photos!"

At first, I thought he was just showing off his pet peafowl.

Just as we snapped a few pics, another guy showed up with a macaw! And put it on my shoulder, too. That's when I remembered hearing about this kind of scam. I quickly asked him to remove them and started walking away.

Then, the first guy demands 50 GEL (1500 Rs) for the photos!

I told him he never mentioned any charge. He argued, claiming he said "photo money," which I never heard.

I offered him a maximum of 10 GEL (300 Rs) and even told him I would delete all the photos in front of him if he wanted. After some haggling, he reluctantly agreed.

I ended up with some great photos for 300 Rs. I hope it was worth it!

Conclusion —

Travelling is all about experiences, both good and bad. Sometimes, you stumble upon scams, but it's a part of the adventure. Just remember to stay alert and always trust your instincts. And hey, at least I got some cool photos out of it!
